I feel like I only add to the problem because I basically really am a “Boomer” by gamer standards (I’m an almost-30-something Millennial whose first console was the original PlayStation) and pretty much only play remasters and remakes these days. As for newer games, my GOTY 2021 was Deltarune Chapter 2 and I genuinely enjoy most games featured on Newgrounds’ Game Portal more than most full-price (plus microtransactions) games, but even then, it’s usually because these games give me the same vibes as my favorite childhood games.
But yeah, otherwise the simple fact that franchises can no longer give us BOTH quality and quantity and can’t experiment anymore (e.g. we can’t get the niche F-Zero in between Mario Kart releases anymore because it’s apparently not a good strategy anymore for Nintendo to have two racing franchises competing with each other) is the most disappointing thing about modern “triple-A” gaming since the PS3 era.
